Somehow, the wifi from the guy down the street will always show “Very Strong”... while your own, 5' away, will ever fail you.

In 2010, there was an upstart company called Clearwire that just had wifi towers, and offered internet for like... I wanna say 30 bucks... for what was *perfect* internet, no interruptions, no lag, never had one damn problem. Only place that I’ve seen with better internet was my college campus. Then I think in 2012, Sprint bought them out so they could the same towers as cell towers, providing no internet service in the process. Like others, I was basically forced to go to Xfinity, who is expensive as hell for *just* internet, and the signal disconnects regularly, the modem tower buzzes loudly, and don’t even get me started if — God forbid — you need to call for customer service.

Ours is Bell. Signal constantly drops, and as far as customer service... forget it. And if you want to cancel and go somewhere else, they stall you to the end of time, to the point where it’s less hassle to just stick with them.
Good business model, apart from that whole “getting new customers” thing. Yet they seem to
thrive
.

Life-musings aside, Wifi analyzer is a great app. Shows you all the networks in your area, what channels they’re running on, band congestion, etc. Very useful for setting your WAP to a channel with as little competition as possible.

I’ll have to look into that.

Ours is Bell.
Let me guess... you’re using their “Home Hub” thingy.

Buy a better router

Were doing. Those things are total shit. I’m not sure what we’re using now and while it’s way better it’s still not what you’d call reliable.
At least whatever we’re using at home is better than what’s at work. All I know is they are both Bell.

Even with upgraded router, nothing is more reliable than a
wifi network
that you don’t have the password to.

I always stay away from whatever the ISP provides. I have an RT-AC86U which also doubles as my NFS share, and with that load it’s still more stable than the modem router.

Sme around here. Around 08 I started with buzz wireless, its been bought out a few times but still same service. Its $45/month now because they upgraded it, and upped the speed, but i still get the $10 grandfathered in discount. Works good enough.
They actually use the water tower as the transmission station or whatever.
